Get Fit in 2009 by Skipping
Are you bored with the gym, your fitness classes or just annoyed to pay so much money each month for your fitness membership and now in search of something new?! Skipping might be the perfect solution for you. It might be not a new invention, but it never loses its effectiveness of getting fit and losing weight. When you think of skipping most of you might remember those days in their youth when especially girls had so much fun with the rope. So at first you might think skipping is just fun and an easy option, but you’ll soon discover that it’s a lot tougher than that. Permanent skipping will give you a high intensity workout, and it’s great to burn calories and build up muscles of the upper and lower body. Just 20 minutes of skipping will help you to burn 250 calories. Skipping can be used for several reasons in respect to your fitness. For example it can to help you to train your coordination and to develop a sense of rhythm.
Here's an awesome video showing some pros in action.
Skipping is a convenient, great value for money workout. It requires very little room and even less storage space. You can carry your rope with you for a workout anytime, anywhere!
Skip in your garden, in the park next door or any room with a high ceiling. It’s an exercise for all-weathers and there is no excuse for skipping your skipping. Skipping is also the ideal sport for everyone, regardless of age. All you need to add skipping to your workout is a rope. Before getting started and buying yourself a rope you should know that the right length of your rope is very important for a correct and effective workout. The length of the rope depends on your height. The best way to test the length of your rope is to stand on the centre of the rope and lift the handles upward. The point where the handles meet the rope should be level with your armpits. Some types of rope allow you to cut them down to size, if more than one person is going to use the same rope a simple solution is to tie knots near the handles to make alterations. You can buy Skipping Ropes ideal for all types of skipping at Skip Hop.
The following suggestions will help you to skip correctly:
* Wear soft-soled shoes.
* Jump on softer surfaces where possible (e.g. wooden floor).
* Stand tall but relaxed – breathing naturally.
* Elbows remain at waist level with arms extended sideways at about a 90 degree angle.
* Ensure that you keep your elbows tucked in and do not lean forward.
* Use a circular wrist motion to turn the rope.
* Hold the rope loosely, using thumb and index finger for control.
* Jump on the balls of the feet landing softly.
* Jump just high enough for the rope to pass under the feet.
* Try to skip quickly but keep your movements to a minimum.
At first it is a good idea to try to skip for at least a minute and then take a rest of 3 minutes. It’s also a good idea to skip with music playing which will help you to skip in a continuous rhythm and as well it will help you to keep going until the end of a song.
If you feel comfortable with the basic workout you have hundreds of options to vary your workout by cross-overs, double jumps, etc.!
Google is on the verge of allowing developers to charge for apps created for use on the internet giants new Android operating system. As it stands all apps for T-mobiles G1 - the only phone to currently use the software - are distrubuted free of charge. The shift in policy will see developers handing over 70% of revenue to Google, but will allow them to benefit from their work like developers do for the Applie iPhone. This move is likely to greatly increase the number of apps available for the phone.
A Dramatic fall in shop prices over November and December has sparked fears that they could surge back up as retailers are forced to offset the weakness of the pound.
In the past ten weeks, consumers have benefited from agressive discounting and to a smaller extent the VAT reduction.
Prices fell two percent last month, which is the largest drop on record since the British Retail Consortium began collecting data in its Neilsen Shop price index.
Comet is to overhaul its site this year, placing a greater emphasis on user generated content.
The retailer said it was in the planning stages for a site that would take advantage of its position as a specialist electronics retailer.
Ryan Thomas, head of direct channels at Comet said: 2Over the next year we want to make the journey from having a flat sales site to one where users can interact with us and each other. We are looking to create a social environment for people to do their research, to buy and also talk about the products"
Last November Comet began allowing visitors to post comments and reviews of products online through integration with social commerce service Bazaarvoice.
DIG out your silly glasses – 3D television is on the way. Sky TV said yesterday (December 18 ) it had successfully tested a 3D system and it could soon be on our screen.
The images can be broadcast over the company’s HD set-top box but polarising glasses and screen filter would be needed. The system was tried out with a Ricky Hatton fight and ‘totally immersed’ viewers, said Sky.

Nowadays, it is very popular to have breast enlargement surgery. It enhances the shape, the size of the breast and boosts your confidence. It is common that small breasts are frustrating to women of all ages and with larger breasts they feel more feminine. Besides, the cosmetic surgeons are trained in a way that they are able to avoid any scars on the breasts.
Prague Beauty uses the most modern mentor silicone implants which are made in the US. They guarantee the breasts look completely natural and can survive a whole life.
It is one of the least risky operations and is suitable for most women. But it cannot be executed on women under 18 because of the mammary gland.
It helps you feel more self-confident because many women have problems with their small breasts and they are very ashamed. I think the most women who I know have large enough breasts so it is needless and a waste of money. Furthermore, it is not healthy for your body and can be cancer-causing.

On Thursday 13 November, lifestylebazaar celebrates its 1st Birthday and I was one of the lucky guys who got an invitation. I can’t believe that it is just one year, for me it feels like the shop is settled in London for ages. When I first discovered this shop I really was fascinated by the wonderful mixture of individual objects. It definitely is one of my favourite shops in London. Even if I’m not in search of something it is such a pleasure to see what’s new. For me it is always a unique, personal shopping experience coupled with difference and variety.
I love the selection of new designs chosen by Chris & Laurent. They simply have got a talent for style, creativity and colour and it is amazing how they transform a room or change a mood by bringing together unusual and individual objects, accessories, furniture and lighting.
Anyway, I wanted to tell you something about their celebration party… to be honest it was more of a very nice informal drink with a really nice bunch of nice people. I was so pleased to finally get to know to Chris and Laurent in person. They are such a nice couple and you really can imagine that they both live their dreams by running this wonderful shop. They had enough reasons to celebrate their first year. Especially for small businesses, like this shop, the first year could be very complicated and so it was for lifestylebazaar – it was a roller-coaster year with many ups and downs. But finally as they worked very hard they reached the point where they could honestly celebrate their success.
Besides me there were lots of journalists and of course some of their designers invited. This fact was again quite interesting for me, to get to know the designers who create your furniture at home. My favourite article I bought at lifestylebazaar is the ovetto bin and at the party I finally met the designer of this nice bin. He is such a nice guy and now I like my bin even more. In addition they presented some of their new articles and I fall in love with a mirror (floride by atelier lzc) and I had to buy it straight away.
So as you can see I had a really good evening and I’m looking forward to their 2nd Birthday…as I’m sure that they are well positioned to take on the challenge of the next months. No more than one month ago they launched their new online store and with a product line up pre-Christmas, in store and online, which even enlarges their capacity to sell more articles.
Whatever the occasion is, don’t miss to check out this beautiful designer furniture shop or visit their website. They sell so many lovely things and the quality by itself is a good reason for that.
why not take a look at lifestylebazaar?

Online retailer Amazon has launched an iPhone application that will allow consumers to search for items by taking photographs using their phones.
The application, which will e available on the Apple Application Store from Thursday (December 11), allows customers to take a picture of a product and then send it to the retailer: Amazon will then try to match it with suggestions of other items they might like.
Amazon says the software aims to simplify shopping on the iPhone and the iPod Touch, which both have wireless web connections.
Director of Amazon Mobile Sam Hall says: “We designed the Amazon applications to be a quick and easy way for iPhone and iPod Touch users to shop, brows, and buy with Amazon.”
The application also offers access to other retailers including US budget chain Target, and allows users to buy with “one click”, in the same way they do on its website. It includes a new feature called Amazon Remembers, which helps users keep track of items they see while away from home, and will store them if they do not wish to shop on their mobile.
Hall says: “Customers can build visual lists of things they want to remember, buy or even learn more about.” Amazon’s iPhone application builds on its TextBuyIt service, which lets customers with Amazon accounts find and buy products by sending a text message to the online retailer. Users only have to reply to the response in order to confirm the order.

But this kind of lavish offering is not limited to the usual suspects. Every store from the usually conventional John Lewis to the more upmarket Harrods are selling lavish hampers this year worth at least £1,000, all despite the economic downturn.
Fortnum & Mason, founded in 1705, claim to have invented the hamper, helping to pack goods to send to soldiers serving in the Napoleonic Wars.
The store first distributed their hampers in its familiar form, to Victorian High Society for events such as the Henley Regatta and Ascot Races.
It was only after the Second World War that department stores started to present Christmas Hampers as a key part of their Christmas offerings.
Times are changing and the online-era offers you lot of new possibilities to go shopping. These days there are quite a few furniture companies who sell their furniture solely through their websites. I’ve picked three cheap furniture selling websites out to give you a short and structured overview about their pro and cons:

The review is split into the following six categories: Website usability and design; Content; Range of Products; Price; Service; Message effectiveness.
Website usability & design
The design and layout of “BuyFunitureNow” is really simple and easy to understand and you can find the information you search for easily as the furniture is split into a few major categories. Unfortunately the resolution of some of the pictures is not high enough and they appear blurry. Considering the pictures are the only possible way to see how the furniture looks like this feature needs some work.
Furniture Deal is in my view a bit too full of information. It is hard to negotiate this site - they offer a huge range of different ranges and there are lots of clicks before you finally find the product you are looking for. However the search function is pretty good, so if you are looking for a certain brand this websites offers you a good overview of which brands they sell.
Furniture 123 has got a really nice layout and the structure of the site is easy to navigate. You can find the essential information easily and the pictures are really good quality.
Content
“Furniture Deal” and “Furniture 123” have some extra content on their site that offers tips and advice on what is important when buying furniture. I would appreciate this as a customer, as online shopping always seems anonymous and you don’t know who is behind the website. With little extra content like this some people will feel more familiar with the business and the authority they have in the industry.
Range of Products
It is a bit difficult to compare these three furniture businesses, as they present different ranges and styles of product. But it stands out that “BuyFurnitureNow” has the most focused range of furniture, seeming to specialising in bedroom furniture, dining room furniture and home office furniture.
Price
For all three businesses the price is really important, that means there are lots of references on all sites that they offer value for money. The prices on all sites are more or less the same. Even the charge for the delivery service is not very different and in fact on higher value purchases all three sites include the delivery charge in the price for the goods.
Service
All three sites possess the general range of service you would expect of an online business. In some cases you will find some extra service conditions. For example “Furniture Deal” offers a next day delivery, which means if you order your articles before 1.00pm they can be at your house within the next day. Of course this extra service is not available for all articles, but still it is a nice offer. The “Furniture 123” offers a similar service and it even is possible to order your article until 4.00pm.
Message Effectiveness
Overall, the effectiveness of their main message needs to be eye catching. The main message of all three website is “cheap but good furniture” and in my opinion they all make a good job of getting this across. There is a clearly an intention to make the purchase of new furniture as comfortable, hassle free and as cheap as possible.
After considering all the different aspects of each online retailer it is difficult to place any of these sites above the rest. As in lot of other cases it really does depend on what you are searching for. However, in all cases you can expect to receive cheap furniture made to a good quality and delivered promptly.
A 2.5 per cent reduction in Value Added Tax (VAT), came into force this morning, hopefully providing a boost to the ailing UK economy, or so the Government hopes.
Thousands of shops and businesses up and down the country have been scrambling to complete changes to their pricing systems ahead of the reduction of VAT to 15 per cent.
A number of large retailers, including the big supermarkets, have already passed on the reduction in the sales tax to customers, but the bulk of shops in the UK are thought to have held off, and many may continue to do so.
The cost of changing accounting systems over the coming two-years as a result of the reduction could cost UK businesses up to £300 million. The changes come at the busiest time of year for retailers when all of their focus is on their customers. In response to this priority many businesses have as an interim measure started to discount normal label prices at the checkout rather than change their pricing structures in the run up to Christmas.
However, there is no legal requirement for shops to pass on the VAT rate cut as long as they are paying the right portion of VAT to the Inland Revenue. It seems that many smaller retailers in particular are unlikely to pass on the full rate cut to the customers as the 2.1% change in prices would be small in most cases and the administration too great.
Despite the disruption the alteration to VAT is causing, economists have questioned how successful the shift will be in boosting the economy, given that the reduction being passed on to consumers is so small.
Even on high priced items it is disputed whether the savings will be big enough to get people to make major purchases.
A £550 flat-screen TV would be £11.62 cheaper, while a £300 washing machine will cost £6.38 less, and someone buying a £15,000 car will save about £375.
Recession? What Recession? There is shopping to be done..
0 comments Posted by Retail Shopping GuideShepherd’s Bush lies in West London next to what could be considered its more fancy neighbours of Holland Park, Noting Hill and Kensington. Some people might think that this area has been long overdue for gentrification. One could even go as far to say that as far as services go it has seriously lagged behind its surrounding areas.
That view might have possibly changed a bit on October 30th, with the opening of the new Westfield shopping centre: The largest urban shopping destination in any European city with an area bigger than Buckingham Palace and its gardens.
A London attraction?
The Westfield shopping and entertainment centre is located between Shepherds Bush and Notting Hill. With over 250 food, bar and shopping outlets it is set to change the West London backdrop forever, whilst promising to deliver a unique visitor "experience".
Recession? What Recession?
Despite the current world financial turmoil, this £1.6 billion shopping development has been targeted to become one of the capital's major retail and leisure destinations. Even if the timing of the project isn’t as fortuitous as the developers would have hoped it seems the retailers are confident in its future. What evidently stands out is the fact that the centre is almost fully let at 99% tenancy. That shows that retailers clearly see their future opportunities first before being awed of the present recession.
Also let’s not forget that such a big project also provides vast economic benefits to the local economy. During the last week of construction there were a reported 8,500 builders, roofers, plasterers, labourers and shop-fitters on site. On top of that, the centre has created 7,000 jobs in its constituent stores.
What London shoppers will make of it?
Only time will tell if Westfield is a destination shopping area with the pull of places like Oxford Street. It has a few things going for it: It is located outside the stifling central London traffic congestion, fumes and crowded streets… but will others outside of the local area visit it?
I’m sure that there will always be lots of people, especially Londoners, who might think that the new shopping Centre is only the latest and largest addition to a neighbourhood that already had most things a Londoner could ever want…
Nevertheless retailers are expecting a very challenging Christmas selling season and the buzz around Westfield could really help lift the financial doldrums
The tradition of Secret Santa
Secret Santa is a western holiday tradition in which members of a group anonymously exchange gifts. It is often practiced in workplaces, or amongst large families. There is often a limited budget to how much you can spend for the present. Many schools and offices do this at Christmas time, as it offers a fun and easy way for many people to give and receive gifts at low cost.
There are various traditions and ways in which the whole Secret Santa event is run. In some variations, names of participants are placed in a hat and mixed up, and each person then chooses one name from the box, but doesn't tell anyone which name was picked. He/she is now responsible for buying a gift for the person selected.
When the Secret Santa wraps his/her gift, he/she should label it with the recipient's name but doesn't indicate whom the present is from. All the gifts are then placed in a general area, marked with the name of the receiver but not the giver. The gift-giving occasion is practiced with all, so that all presents can be opened at the same time. When the gift-giving time arrives, each recipient finds his/her gift and must guess who their Secret Santa is. If they can't guess, their Secret Santa eventually confesses.
In some other variations each participant also submits to his/ her name submission a short wish list of items from which the gift-giver can choose. Presents are also exchanged anonymously, but sometimes people leave hints in cards on desks, or they create other special ways to make themselves known.
One ritual but so many different names
The basic concept of the Secret Santa game is simple but the ritual has a lot of different names in different countries. In the United States, Canada and Great Britain it is known as Secret Santa but in Ireland and parts of the Commonwealth it is known as Kris Kindle. The origin of all these names are traditional Christmas gift-bringers: the US version is named after Santa Claus while Kris Kindle and Kris Kringle are distortions of the original name of the German gift-bringer, which means the 'Child Jesus' in the German language, but who actually is a young innocent girl similar to an angel.
In all the other countries the term Secret Santa can refer to the ritual itself, or any of the people participating, while you won’t find the origins in their traditional gift-bringers. In Britain the traditional gift-bringer is Father Christmas and as you can see there is no relation to the term Secret Santa. In Brazil, it is called 'Amigo Secreto 'or 'Amigo oculto' (Secret Friend) and in the Spanish Latin America, and Spain it is called 'Amigo Invisible' (Invisible Friend). Also in Germany, where the term 'Christkindl' has got their origin, it is known as 'Wichteln'. A 'Wichtel' is the German word for gnome.
It seems more and more countries are copying the idea of Secret Santa and invent their own Christmas gift-giving ritual and it really is a very funny and good opportunity to bring your colleagues together.

Almost every woman loves to receive jewellery at Christmas. This fact might have most men running for hills with desperate thoughts of diamonds and tiaras - but fear not gents -beautiful jewellery need not be expensive.Spanglecat has lots of different types of costume jewellery for you or your partner, friend and relative. The usual suspects can be found on their site: Watches, earrings, necklaces and bracelets and they do have quite a range to offer, but they also offer more unusual and funky items like nose studs, belly bars, tongues bars and tiaras (no diamonds included!).
Jewellery is made to attract attention and much of Spangle Cats range doesn't disappoint and for all the right reasons. The majority of pieces are made from silver, and have crystal or diamente details. We are assured - by their impressive testimonial pages - that the jewellery looks even better than on the website (and their photography is excellent)For those who have a wedding to think about at Christmas time (are you mad?), Spanglecat also offer a wonderful range of tiaras and bridal jewellery.
It's only October 15th but, according to the decree of the high street retailers, that is plenty enough time to start thinking about Christmas. If you are eager to close your eyes to it until December 23, or stay away from the annual orgy of consumption altogether, you might want to look away now.
Opening a Christmas hamper was like lifting the lid on Pandora's box. You never know what inedible terror lurked below: tins of smoked salmon, candied orange peel or inedible nuts. Even the grandest were pretty bog-standard.
But Christmas hampers have become more refined in recent times in terms of content, wrapping, speed of delivery and ease of order. The hamper buyer at johnlewis.com, says:
'Twenty years ago, hampers always came in traditional wicker containers. Now we offer hampers on faux leather trays, in magazine racks, in wooden garden planters, or in galvanised pails.'
The demand today is for the freshest foods, unlike in the 1950s when most were food parcels sent from overseas.
Sainsbury's supermarket, which offers hampers priced from £20 to £200, estimates that the business-to-business hamper market is worth £20 million the retail market £30m, and the traditional 'larder filler' market another £25m.
The larder-filler idea began in the north of England, where working-class families paid into a club-type arrangement each week or month and just before Christmas received a hamper of ingredients.
Hampers tend to be more flexible nowadays, with many providers, such as Bradfords Bakers Offering a bespoke service.
From Beluga to Biccies
With Hampers content and value for money vary greatly and you can spend anything from tens of pounds to thousands of pounds. Most Lavish
Harrods' The Chairman's Choice, presented in a large leather trunk, and Fortnum & Mason's new Imperial Hamper. Both cost £5000 !. The Harrods hamper contains 64 items including a pork with guinea fowl and duck pie topped with orange Cointreau stuffing, and wines and spirits. Fortnum & Mason has apparently made only 10 of its Imperials, adding to the exclusivity. Items include beluga caviar, foie gras with truffles and a jeroboam of Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 1990 champagne. For £1,000, Marks & Spencer's Gourmet Banquet comes in two large leather hampers and includes 6 bottles of champers and enough vino and spirits to ensure not only your family but probably both sets of neighbours are legless well into New Year.
Most Sensible
A little more festive in terms of content is Selfridges' The Great Christmas Larder for £180 with 21 items, some of which are organic, including cranberry sauce, Christmas pudding, plum jam and - hardly likely to win it a creativity award - tomato ketchup. At £129, Bradfords Bakers Dasher Celebration Christmas Hamper contains a sumptuous selection of 24 items includes 2 wines and savoury and sweet items in a rustic willow basket. Products include wild boar pate, coles old growler plum pudding, mincemeat pies, Belgian chocolates and poachers pickle fruit chutney. The nice thing about this particular hamper apart from the price of course is the fact that Bradfords actually makes most of the goodies in the hamper and does not use any artificial flavourings or preservatives.
To be extravagant or to be sensible this is the question when most of us are feeling the effects of the credit crunch my head, heart and mouth will be choosing a Dasher Hamper from Bradfords Bakers.

For me GHD Hair Straighteners are very important pieces of hair styling equipment I use for when I get waves in my hair. The practical thing about hair straighteners is that they become very hot in a short time and also cool down in a short time. For this reason it is necessary that you buy a straightener of a good quality and also avoid the cheapest price because you could basically throw them in the bin. To buy a high quality hair straightener like ghd straighteners, is worth it for everyone as well as your hair!
You can use ghd products also when you do not use straighteners because there are lots of other products which they offer on their website like shampoo, conditioner, weekly conditioning mask and leave-in treatment.
Exchange rate makes shopping trips to the US worthwhile
The recent devaluation of the US Dollar versus Sterling Pounds and the Euro has increased the number of tourists visiting the USA for a shopping trip. In fact, airline and travel companies say that business has gone up by up to 30% during recent months. The natural choice for most shopping tourists to visit is New York City. With its well known high street stores the average tourist is able to shop in stores he might not be able to afford on a high street in London.
While New York profits from this sudden boom the most due to its well known shops and good inexpensive flight connections from Europe, buyers are now increasingly looking for other destinations where their currency might buy them even more.
For example, when buying designer jeans, which are already less expensive in the USA in general, buyers can achieve savings of up to 65 %. While there are not a lot of sights to see, discounts in the heartland of the States might take your savings even further.
If you want to combine your shopping holiday with holidays on the beach Miami might be the ideal solution. Not only will you be able to save on your new Armani suite, but enjoy a white sandy beach at hotel which you’d otherwise might not have afforded to check in.
Not only the States, most Caribbean destinations which use the Dollar have increased their popularity. For example, a hotel room at the Bahamas Atlantis Resort which is very high end for the average American at $617 is a good price for what you get as a British tourist with £311. If you're looking for a somewhat more active holiday, cruise travel agencies such as RTC Cruises offer a number of packages to destinations that have the US Dollar as their currency.
Here we are, Christmas is coming and the appetite for video games has reached a peak. In the battle opposing the Nintendo Wii, the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3, the Wii seems to be the favourite. Many retailers have already declared that they will be unable to cope with the unexpected demand for Nintendo Wii.
The video game console released by Nintendo has become a phenomenon offering a more social way of gaming to new audiences. Indeed women and old players are now targeted by Nintendo and the Wii is already on many boys and girls Christmas wish lists.
However the Wii is technologically less advanced than the Playstation 3 whose sales have been increasing rapidly since Sony cut its price. Moreover the PS3 and Xbox 360 could benefit from the possible Wii shortage for Christmas: there must be a video game console under the Christmas tree and if Santa Claus cannot put a Wii under the tree, there will certainly be a PS3 or an Xbox 360.
So what will there be under your Christmas tree? It seems that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have decided to keep the audience in suspense.
Samsung have teamed up with Giorgio Armani to release a new phone (previously known as the Samsung SGH-P520) dubbed the "Armani" phone. The Armani phone is very similar in form to the Samsung SGH-P300 and SGH-P310, with only an increase of 2mm in thickness, but a whole host of new features.
The biggest change comes in the interface, dropping the majority of buttons and following in the upgrade from the P300 to the P310, the majority of the users control in now carried out with the use of the touch screen display. This is certainly following trends set by LG with the Prada phone, and more recently the iPhone, but the screen is lacking in quality with a resolution of only 240 x 320 pixels.
The phone does not have wireless LAN capabilities as originally speculated, this then puts this phone firmly in the fashion phone range, rather than a multifunction PDA style phone.
Announced in late September, expect the Armani phone to be on sale soon, probably in time for Christmas.
